Planting Trees at Buckboard Park - a Great Day in the Neighborhood

Buckboard Park in the North Houston District is a beautiful greenspace that includes walking paths, benches, sculpture and a playground full of fabulous equipment. In the mornings, walkers circle the park, and in the afternoons it is filled with the laughter of children. Unfortunately, due to recent extreme weather, many of the park's trees have succumbed to heat. On October 25, with the donation of twenty-five 15-gallon trees from Trees for Houston and fabulous community volunteers that included homeschool students and their families, corporate volunteers from nearby Coca Cola Southwest Beverages, SWCA Environmental Consultants and others, Greens Bayou Coalition and North Houston District added future shade throughout this neighborhood park that families can enjoy for years to come!

Also, Greens Bayou Coalition is excited to be the recipient of an EarthShare Texas Volunteer Match Grant. For every hour that volunteers spend working to help the environment with Greens Bayou Coalition this October (up to 100 hours) Greens Bayou Coalition will receive $20 from an anonymous donor! Volunteers at this tree planting event event not only helped add shade to a much loved local park and reduce the impact of a heat island in an urban area, but they also helped us raise funds to further our mission! Wow! We thank our awesome volunteers, our anonymous donor, North Houston District, and EarthShare Texas for a great day in the Greens Bayou watershed!
