Greens Bayou Coalition Board with a Purpose
On Saturday, GBC held their first post-Covid Board Retreat. The welcoming moments were spent declaring "Why" we were part of Greens Bayou Coalition. It was great to hear the passion in each person there. Everyone had a different reason--some were drawn to GBC because of environmental or ecological issues, some because they'd lived in the area their entire lives and wanted to help their community, some because of the beauty and recreational value of this "hidden gem" that is Greens Bayou.
Facilitated by Ronnie Hagerty from United Way, we first spent some time discussing the importance of Board Roles & Responsibilities, and how meaningful it is that we fully engage in our position as board members. We were reminded that it is an honor and privilege to serve on this board and it shouldn't be taken lightly.
Then the true work began. We were challenged to tear our Mission apart and rebuild it. We all threw out words that described what Greens Bayou Coalition is, what it means and what we do. We talked about our Vision, what we see ourselves becoming in the future. And the biggest question of all....how to do that? How do we get there? How do we inspire people to join us? How do we raise funding to start and complete all the projects and programs that we dream of doing to improve the quality of life in the Greens Bayou Watershed?
It was only a few hours on a Saturday morning, with only a portion of our board of directors. But it was a start. And it was inspiring. There's a lot of hard work ahead of us. We'll see what happens..... You can certainly join us and find out firsthand!
