2024 Annual Greens Bayou Regatta - Spotlight on the Racers!

This year's race was exceptionally fast. We had a tailwind and a quick current, as well as some very fast paddlers. We're pleased to share the names, times and photos of this year's medal and trophy winners!

Overall Winner

The fastest paddler on Greens Bayou on October 5 in the Solo Unlimited class, and the Overall Winner of the 2024 Greens Bayou Regatta,  was Matt Bonura at 1:13:51.

Congratulations, Matt!

The Corporate Cup

There were thirteen canoes entered in the race for the perpetual Corporate Cup. The Corporate Cup trophy went to Pin Oak Interests, in a canoe paddled by David Thomas and Nicole Romano. This year's finish time was 1:45:35. Taking second place was Coca Cola Southwest Beverages, paddled by Norma Flores and Robert Contreras, with a time of 1:53:09. And close behind, in third place was Halff, paddled by Rick Howard and Austin Zen, with a finish of 1:56:50.

Solo Unlimited

These first three paddlers were so fast, they almost beat the race director and the rest of the Regatta land crew to the finish line! As mentioned above, Matt Bonura took first at 1:13:51. He was quickly followed by Mark Kouwe for second place at 1:16:50. David Portz came in at a very close third at 1:21:53. Congratulations to all!

Tandem Recreational Canoe

The 1st place medals in the Mens' division went to Christopher Gray and Cliff Rhodes this year--they finished at 1:52:31. They were followed by the father/son team of Dennis and J.D. Haines for 2nd place at 2:38:34. The Mixed division first place medals were won by Ron and Carla Vlaskamp at 1:43:33.

Adventure Solo Kayak

Jeff Nunn was our 1st place finisher in the Men's division for 2024, with a time of 1:59:51. In 2nd place was Bruce Arenales, coming in at 2:31:33. First place in the Women's division was taken by Betty Feng, at a very fast 1:49:47. She was followed by Jessica Rattani, who came in at 2:27:50 to win the 2nd place medal. Melissa Lopez won the 3rd place Women's medal at 2:32:16.

We had a couple other people who took home a trophy on October 5 - Brian Jenison and Dean Campa who paddled a corporate canoe for Lone Star College - North Harris. They won the Styrofoam Cup Trophy for collecting the most trash on their 7.7 mile trip down the bayou. Last year they collected almost 200 lbs. because we included tires in the weight. This year we did not include tires, only "floatable" trash, which is very lightweight, but they still managed to fill their canoe and bring back nearly 30 lbs. of trash. THANK YOU, gentlemen!!
