Green Up Greens Bayou Phase II has come and gone. We successfully planted all 156 trees with the help of  25 volunteers!

Thank you to the volunteers from DHL, Halff, the Haines Family, Dustin, and Mauro for making this a successful event.

156 15-gallon trees were planted along the 1 mile trail connecting Tom Wussow Park and Jack Drake Park.

They will help sequester 9 tons of carbon dioxide per year, and remove 198 pounds of air pollutants per year.

Additionally, they will help mitigate flood severity by intercepting nearly 309,000 gallons of rainfall per year through their roots.

Thank you to everyone who  participated and helped this be a successful event.

The impact of these trees is significant for both the environment and the local community.
Their roots help combat flooding by absorbing stormwater runoff and reducing soil erosion. The tree canopy provides shade that cools the surrounding area, helping to lessen the urban heat island effect and create a more comfortable environment for both people and wildlife. In addition, the canopy offers valuable habitat for local species, supporting greater biodiversity and a healthier, more resilient ecosystem.

WE DID IT!

An Environmental grant from H-E-B's Our Texas Our Future and a Community Grant from H-E-B's Trees For Texans program made this phase of the project possible.  Trees were donated by Trees for Houston.  We thank North Houston District for their partnership and collaboration throughout this entire project!

We've just completed Phase I of Green Up Greens Bayou!  These 85 trees add shade for hikers and bikers and provide santuary for bayou flora and fauna as they reducd the air temperature. They filter and clean both air and water, help stop erosion and beautify OUR BAYOU.  We couldn't have done this without the help of H-E-B, Texas by Nature, Trees for Houston, North Houston District and all the wonderful corporate and community volunteers who came out to plant trees!  Our goal is to continue to plant trees along Greens Bayou across Greens Road, from Wussow Park to Hardy Road--almost 200 more trees!  This will probably require at least 2 more phases to this project.

We'll need community support so we can continue to Green Up Greens Bayou!  Contact Colleen to find out how you can help!
