There are nearly 20 existing parks throughout the Greens Bayou Corridor, and more are planned for the future. In fact, several projects are unfolding to facilitate GBCC’s goal of further developing the recreational opportunities along the bayou.

  1. Working with the National Park Service The Coalition has developed a Parks & Trails Master Plan for the entire 45-mile corridor. Reach committees are tasked with developing partnerships and securing funding for park development.
  2. With a $97,000 grant from Texas Parks & Wildlife The Coalition partnered with Greenspoint District to construct Ida Gaye Gardens. The park is designed to support healthy senior lifestyles and includes walking trails, herb and vegetable community gardens and exercise equipment. It opened in spring 2011.
  3. With a $98,000 grant from Texas Parks & Wildlife and funding from Greenspoint District, Drake Park will begin construction in 2015.
  4. In the South Reach, a partnership with Houston Parks Board has led to the development of Thomas Bell Foster Park, a 6.5 acre site devoted to kayak and canoe enthusiasts. Guided kayaking trips are offered on weekends through Bayou City Adventures.
